Drawing from the talents of five different songwriters, the album is a unique and powerful collaboration that incorporates compositional influences from the new avant-garde, tape loops and phasing music, and cinematic sound-tracks with the drive, energy and passion of a rock band. Sevens Project has produced an organic sounding record that defies simple categorization.

The warmth of acoustic guitars, lush string ensembles, horn sections, vocal choirs and a Dixieland band are processed with the sonic edge and precision of studio manipulation. Thundering drums, jarring electronics and earsplitting guitars provide the backdrop for gorgeous arrangements and ambient treatments and playful orchestration.

The six-piece Lake of Stew recorded their sophomore effort with legendary award-winning producer Ken Whiteley, who has worked on over 125 productions throughout his career, collaborating with bands who’s musical styles range from folk and swing, to blues, gospel and children’s music (Raffi, Sharon, Lois & Bram.) Somehow, Lake of Stew can actually fit into every one of these categories, having filtered their previous pop, jazz, indie or rock ‘n’ roll references through jug band, vocal, gospel and old time folk music.

Lake of Stew aren’t revivalists, really. They simply use the traditional way of making music to have an immediate connection with the crowd, who are encouraged to learn the lyrics and serve as amplifiers. Go to their shows and be part of it.

The Berlin duo, known for their synth pop punk garage shindigs (these are the 4 adjectives we stuck to, but we could’ve plug at least 13 more in there) and their inspired covers will release a French-only album (they’ve been know to release French, German and English tracks) available everywhere in Canada, via Dare To Care Records. Aside from new Quebec classics, the album also features covers of tracks that even us francos have never heard before, classic French tracks from the band’s repertoire and unreleased or out of print French songs.

A first listen to this long awaited album is now possible with the new single ’’Porté disparu’’. Malajube will also be back on stage for their CD launch on February 17th at La Tulipe, in Montréal, wich will kickoff the band’s 2009 worldwide tour.

Étienne d’Août single is full of surprises and has an happy ending! It starts with a new version of Étienne d’Août, one of the most important songs on Trompe-l’oeil but with more piano and vocals. Then comes, nothing less, a "remix banger" of Filles à plumes followed by a new song M. Pupille only available on this single. To end this masterpiece, a Elton John kinda version of Étienne d’Août. This version, renamed Elton d’Août will put love in all mothers’ hearts with the strings arrangement and orchestral harmonies.

Pawa Up First are coming back in force with a follow up to « The Scenario ». « Introducing New Details », the name of that new full length, is the fruit of months of hard labor in order to polish this multi facet gem, a true cinematographic alchemy of indie rock, jazz, hip hop, dub and electro. Various collaborations with Seba (Gatineau, Ghislain Poirier), Dshade (Shades of Culture) and Belle come enhance the cinematic compositions of the quintet.

Petrochemical rock outfit Les Georges Leningrad just laid a bat’s egg. It is called Sangue Puro. Sangue Puro is the third release of the Montreal trio. The sepulchral vibes and juvenile fury emanating from the guitar and keyboards will make you dance for yourself in front of the mirror. The ancient vessels explode and sink under the pressure of the killer rhythms. This latest effort, transported by the chant of a pipistrelle, is a bomb. It appears to me to be the last valuable argument before the Third World War.

The Sainte Catherines briefly put back their cowboy hats on in order to deliver the new Yesterday’s Ring EP. Back From El Rancho is the cd version of the out of print and very limited 12’’ the band released last year. The 4 tracks bring us back into this beer and whiskey drenched introspection that has those die hard touring machines spill their guts. Back From El Rancho is a place of choice on the backseat of Yesterday’s Ring and The Sainte Catherines van.

Avec pas d’casque’s first « real » full length is finally out. « One of Quebec’s outfit to watch » according to Malajube, Avec pas d’casque is a lo-fi guitar and drums duo. Loved for their crafty style. Hated for the same reason. Definitely more stripped down than their first effort, "Trois chaudières de sang" is more representative of the band on stage. A delight for country-folk fans!

First full length album by this French singing Montréal power-unit. The songs are in the vein of their debut CDep "Croyez-Moi, Ça Fait Mal!"; political and poetical as always but even catchier and more technical. How’s that possible you’ll ask me? Well I don’t know but it is, witness for yourselves! Rock hasn’t felt this right in a long time!

"Quebec’s heaviest drop the early Neurosis influence they displayed on their second record but retain the panoramic vision, which hits epic proportions here (think early Isis). Expertly recorded by Montreal’s Howard Bilerman (The Arcade Fire), every drum wallop and razor-sharp riff brutalizes, with larynx-shredding vocals hidden comfortably underneath the assault. They squeeze a lot of movements and dynamics into each of these six songs, with riffs left to travel wherever they choose, but always coming home to roost when it matters.
