Pawa Up First
_

"The Montreal instrumentalists ambitiously amalgamate Crimson-hued prognostications, spaghetti cinematica, nimble jazz geometry and nebular guitar gushes—often all at once, to both impressive and oppressive effect. They lock into powerful stretches often enough on their drama-drenched third album” Mirror

Nearly four years have passed since Pawa Up First’s last album. Musicians, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier (guitars), Mathieu Pontbriand (bass), Joseph Perrault (drums and percussions) and Sandy Belfort (keyboards), reappear today with a fourth album titled Missing Time. An enchanting and enigmatic space-time in which Pawa Up First unveils a little more, elaborating on the complexity of memories and on the experiences, sometimes inexplicable, that unite us. Missing Time is also a continuum, a dialogue between images and music investigated by the group since its inception, a deep, poetic universe, colourful and distinct with a powerful narrative evocative.

The fourth album is the result of meetings, exchanges and dialogues. Multiple explorations marked by complicity which illustrate the unclassifiable and unique world of the group. Songs such as Charlotte, Visitors, Kntkt, Teru Teru Bozu, and The Listeners carry us away towards a mysterious world where reality and dreamland meet, referring to the memory that sometimes eludes us, to the nostalgia and the passing of time.

Pawa Up First’s sound signature, frequently described as cinematic, is as much driven by those of Phillip Glass, Ennio Morricone, Angelo Badalamenti, Riyuichi Sakamoto, than inspired by jazz, hip-hop, experimental rock, electro and shoegaze. On stage, the quartet continues its creative process with the exploration and experimentation of images at the service of music, which includes video projections on stage, mostly self-produced. The musicians take us on a journey into the depths of the unknown, towards the infinity of possibilities.

Pawa Up First - Missing Time
Store

MISSING TIME refers to a gap in conscious memory relating to a specific period in time, experienced by people who've had close encounters with UFOs and abduction phenomenons. It is also the name of Pawa Up First's 4th album and the connection could not be more appropriate. After setting up in a summer cottage to record, series of mysterious events and sightings pushed the four members of Pawa to reconsider their material and forced them to rewrite the entire album. The 11 tracks on 'Missing Time' are the result of a profound bonding between all 4 musicians through the realization of an imminent presence of life outside our own world. Therefore, traces of psychedelia, electro, shoegaze and whatnot are all elements that have emerged of those sessions in the woods and added to Pawa's known cinematic atmospheres. Listen to the music and surrender to the idea that we are not alone.
