Yesterday’s Ring
_

Formed in 2001 by Hugo Mudie and Frederic Jacques, both from punk outfit The Sainte Catherines, Yesterday’s Ring was only supposed to be an acoustic side band for fun, where punk rock would step aside and leave place to different musical styles. The band will really see the day in Memphis, Tennessee, on a day-off during one of The Sainte Catherines’ North-American tours in June 2001, where the 2 friends started writing country-folk songs. These songs appeared 6 months later on a split CD released on Dare To Care Records, label partly owned by Mudie. This split CD also features Montreal’s ska-punk band The Couch Addiction. The 5 deep and touching Yesterday’s Ring songs on the CD received an unexpected and warm welcome by local press and underground music lovers, which created a hype and demand for the band, leading them to perform over 30 shows in 2002, mostly in Quebec.

Two years later, Yesterday’s Ring officially became a four piece band including all the songwriters from The Sainte Catherines: Hugo Mudie, Frédérique Jacques, Louis Valiquette and Marc-André Beaudet. This fusion gave the band the extra strength and knowledge it needed to move a step ahead, making the new songs, richer in emotions and also more accessible to a larger public.

On "Onze Chansons Pour Faire Pleurer Les Morts-Vivants", you will find, on top of 3 acoustic guitars; bass, harmonica, violin, piano, as well as many different percussions. Not surprising when you know that their main influences are no less than great songwriters such as Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart and Johnny Cash. Simple and catchy songs with great lyrics is the recipe. Take all those influences, add the experience gained by the band members in their respective punk rock bands, and Yesterday’s Ring gives us a perfectly mature and original folk-country-punk that is sure to move you and send shivers down your spine.

Louis Valiquette: Guitars, vocals, synths, xylophone
Frédéric Jacques: Guitars, vocals

Yesterday’s Ring - Back From El Rancho
Store

The Sainte Catherines briefly put back their cowboy hats on in order to deliver the new Yesterday’s Ring EP. Back From El Rancho is the cd version of the out of print and very limited 12’’ the band released last year. The 4 tracks bring us back into this beer and whiskey drenched introspection that has those die hard touring machines spill their guts. Back From El Rancho is a place of choice on the backseat of Yesterday’s Ring and The Sainte Catherines van.
